Abstract :The aim of this paper is to investigate Turkish loanwords present in the dictionary by Stuart Edward Mann Historical Albanian-English Dictionary (1948). Stuart Edward Mann is a well-known British albanologist, who has contributed both to Albanian literary studies and Albanian linguistics. Mann’s dictionary is the the most comprehensivedictionary published in those yearsand it bears great twofold significance in terms of its contribution to Albanian lexicography and to the Albanian language history. The paper examines and presents numerous sources that Mann exploited to compile his historical bilingual dictionary. In this study, Turkish loanwords found in Mann’s dictionary areclassified according to the most significantsemantic fields. Next, these loanwords arecompared and contrasted to Turkish loanwords present in two successive monolingual Albanian language dictionaries Fjalor i gjuhës shqipe (1954) and Fjalor i gjuhës së sotme shqipe (1980). Finally, the paper determines whether the number of Turkish loanword entries has increased or decreased in the Albanian language dictionaries and seeks to interpret the factors that might have influenced their presence or absence in the forementioned dictionaries.
