Abstract :Takiyettin Mengüşoğlu, İnsan Felsefesi adlı eserinde insanın varlık yapısını 17 temel kategoride ele almaktadır. Edebiyat incelemesine farklı bir bakış açısı getirmek üzere söz konusu varlık kategorileri edebi metinde yer alan şahıslara da uygulanabilir. Bu çalışmada Mengüşoğlu’nun tesbit ettiği kategoriler Kemal Tahir’in “Esir Şehrin Mahpusu” adlı romanında yer alan mahpus tipine uygulanmış ve Kemal Tahir’in romancılığı konusunda bir sonuca varılmaya çalışılmıştır.
