Abstract :In this paper a-starlike functions and meromoi- phic a—starlike functions are studied. Using Goluzin’s variational m ethod, variational formulas for these classes of functions are obtained, and some extrem al prohlems have been solved. Also sharp bounds are obtained for a-starlike functions as:
