Analysis of The Novel “Land Curse”, Based on Westoxification Discourse

Abstract :Jalal Al-e Ahmad is one of the influential and famous individuals in the Iranian contemporary literature who took great steps toward promotion of the country s literature and culture,during his short life. Therefore, he has been known as a superior and distinguished face. He has also among those persons who made others to argue and confront about him, concerning his individual characteristics and the social conditions of the time. Al-e Ahmad is not just and author and artist, but is a multi-dimensional man to talk about.He, as the most famous one who raised the nativism discourse and return to one self, explain the Iranian colonized society s irregularities in the novel “Land Curse” which is this westoxification artistic interpretation. He tries to response the situation in this book. He explicitly criticizes the society and applies the story to express his thoughts about denying the west technology, blaming the urbanization and imposed modernism and preserving the past traditions. He plays the role of a social critic whose main purpose is to expand a serve critical argument against the imitative and authoritarian modernization in one hand and emphasizes on revival of the traditional identity and cultural gentility with a critical approach toward the tradition, on the other hand . This paper is actually analysis of one of Al-e Ahmad s novels based on his wetoxification argument. The authors applied descriptiveanalytical method on the basis of the argument analysis theoretical framework to extract his social and political approaches in the selected work and to show the way he has reflected his worldview and in which backgrounds through instances and evidences
