Abstract :Popper, Platon’un “geometri bilmeyen girmesin” sözünün sanki Platon geometri bilmenin felsefe için faydalı olacağını söylemiş gibi düzanlamıyla anlaşılmaması gerektiğini söyler. Popper bu sözün daha kapsamlı bir yorumu hak ettiğini iddia eder ve bir kestirimde bulunur. Ona göre irrasyonel sayılarının keşfinin ardından doğal sayılara dayanan Pythagorasçı aritmetik artık yeterli değildi. İrrasyonel sayı ve doğrularla ilgilenen geometri bundan böyle en temel bilimdi. Platon bu gerçeği görmüş ve Timaios’ta geometriye dayalı bir kozmoloji inşa etmeye uğraşmıştı.
