OCCURRENCE OF UNIO HUETI (BOURGUIGNAT, 1855) IN KARALEYLEK CANYON, EASTERN ANATOLIA, TÜRKİYE

Abstract :Unio hueti Bourguignat, 1855 specimens were found in the Saklıkapı Karaleylek canyon, in the Kumlutarla village of the Baskil district of Elazığ. On July 18, 2022, mussel samples were collected randomly from an area of approximately 1000 square meters from the entrance and exit areas of Karakaya Dam Saklıkapı Karaleylek Canyon.All collected specimens were located in the littoral zone insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(0-10 m);. A total of 80 mussels were examined from the entrance and exit of the canyon. The average length and weight of the mussel shells collected from the entrance and the exit of the canyon were 8.07 ± 0.42 cm, 7.92 ± 0.35 cm, 49.01 ± 4.78 g, and 47.55± 5.03 g, respectively. Although the occurrence of U. hueti was reported from the Karasu and Murat Rivers in the Erzurum province of Türkiye, this study is the first confirmed report of Karaleylek canyon in Elazığ which is located in Türkiye’s East Anatolian Region. This study fills the information gap in terms of showing the distribution range of U. hueti.
