Abstract :Özet Sosyal, politik ve ekonomik bir olgu olarak dünden bugüne varolagelen eğitim, toplum hayatında oluşur, değişir ve gelişir. Bunun İçin eğitimi, içinde oluştuğu toplumu ve şartlarını dikkate almadan açıklamaya çalışan, onun amaçlarını belirleme girişiminde bulunan görüş ve düşünce tarzları daima yanılgı içerisindedir. Bu gerçek doğrultusunda Atatürk, eğitimin temel değerlerinin ve dinamiklerinin milli karakterde olmasını özellikle vurgular. Aynı zamanda özgür imanı yetiştiren eğitimin, çağdaş ve evrensel değerlere açık, onlara katkıda bulunan bir faaliyet olması gerektiğini dile getirir. Atatürk\`e göre eğitim; hem toplumsal kimliğin, milli şahsiyetin inşacısı ve koruyucusu, hem de çağın şartlarına göre geliştirici bir karaktere ve fonksiyona sahip olmalıdır. Depending on this fact, any kinds of views or thoughts trying to define the objectives of education without considering the society and the conditions in which education takes place are erroneous. In the light of this fact, Atatürk emphasizes that the basic values and dynamics of education should base on the national character of the society. He also adds that education, which is teaching the individuals the freedom concept, should be open to contemporary and universal values and contribute to those values mentioned above. Education, according to Atatürk should be both the builder and the protector of the social identity and national character and the developer which has the feature and the function to develop the learners according to the needs of the time.
