Abstract :The similarity of two terms of Carian funerary terminology, śinsert ignore into journalissuearticles values(j);as ‘funerary monument’ insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(attested in Carian inscriptions); and σοῦαinsert ignore into journalissuearticles values(ν); ‘tomb’ insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(preserved by Stephan of Byzantium); was recognized long ago, but their connection, if it exists at all, is unclear. This paper argues that both forms go back to the same underlying word by regular phonological and morphological processes.
