Abstract :The article analyzes the content and directions of published works related to the migration processes of the beginning of the twentieth century, historiography and the source-study base of the ethno-demographic situation in Kazakhstan under the conditions of military-colonial domination of tsarist Russia. In general, researchers on this topic can be divided into three groups. The first group of researchers covered the problem in the interests of the government. The second group tried to uncover the true causes and purpose of the resettlement. The third group of representatives of the Kazakh intelligentsia in their writings covered the issue of resettlement as a tragedy for the Kazakh land and people.
