Abstract :Bu makalede, öteden beri dil âlimlerinin eserlerinde üzerinde çokça durdukları Arap alfabesinin ilk harfi “hemze” ele alınarak bu harfin anlamı, “hemze” olarak isimlendirilmesinin sebebi, dil âlimlerinin bu konudaki görüşleri ve “hemze”’nin çeşitleri üzerinde durulmuştur.
