Abstract :The problem of human nature is first scrutinized by sophists in the history of philosophy. The previous thoughts are formed around the philosophy of nature before sophists. However, the sophists who can be evaluated as \`the first enlightenment philosophers\`, put the human nature in the center of the problem. In this context, when we examine human, to our understanding the human nature becomes both the object and subject of the problem. Because, as the entity examining is human, the entity to be examined is also human. In this situation, where does the problem of identity stand around discussions to be expressed in the context of human nature? No doubt, the problem of identity has social-political aspects. At the same time, this problem has also epistemological aspects like other social-political problems. In this article, first of all, the onto-etymological background of concepts regarding \`identity\` and \`personality\` will be examined. After that whether the human nature has egoistic roots or not will be dealt with.
