Abstract :David Frisby’in takdimiyle “Modern Kültürde Çatışma” isimli Georg Simmel’in denemelerinden oluşan kitap genel hatlarıyla modernizmin oluşturduğu toplumu bazı formlar üzerinden analizini yapmaktadır. Bu formlar; bıkkınlık, ussallık, aşk, para ekonomisi ve moda gibi kavramlardan oluşmaktadır. Simmel bu bağlamda metropolde yetişmiş olmanın verdiği avantajla taşra/kasaba toplumu ile metropol/kent toplumunun analizlerini yapmış ve bizlere aktarmıştır. Simmel, toplumsal hayatı ve modern toplumu formlardan hareketle analizini yapmış olmasına rağmen mikro-sosyoloji düzleminde yer almıştır. Kitap incelemesinde G. Simmel’in, en önemli 3 denemesini “Metropol ve Tinsel Hayat”, “Modern Kültürde Çatışma” ve “Moda Felsefesi” adlı eserleri incelenip, değerlendirilmeye çalışılmaktadır.
