Evaluation of Historical Mosques in Sinop City Center within the Scope of Tourism for All

Abstract :Tourism, one of Turkey’s important sources of income, is frequently included in many plans (regional plans, area management plans, zoning plans, strategic plans, etc.) and is encouraged to be developed, especially in development plans. However, in order to provide ethical service and profitability in a sustainable manner under increasingly competitive conditions, as many people as possible, regardless of their gender, should be able to access tourism travel, products, services and the built environment equally and safely, and be actively involved in tourism activities. At this stage, the concept of accessible tourism, or tourism for all, comes to the fore as a type of socially responsible tourism that makes it possible to enjoy tourism activities in a safe and comfortable way, including potential participants who are not the average participants of standard tourism services. The material of the study consists of seven historical mosques in the city center of Sinop, where the act of worship, which is one of the most fundamental rights and freedoms, takes place and is also a part of religious tourism. This study, which examines the current situation regarding the visitability of these historical mosques through accessibility, aims to contribute to the tourism of the developing Sinop by drawing attention to accessible arrangements for the use of historical buildings. The qualitative research method and case study (field study) design were used in the study, and the research data consisted primarily of literature, relevant legislation, observation, documentation and spatial analysis. In this study, the historical mosques in the city center of Sinop were evaluated and it was revealed that the level of accessibility/visitability was partially achieved and suggestions were presented on the subject.
