Abstract :The aim of this study was to determine the effects of skill-based high-intensity training on physical performance and technical skills in adolescent female basketball players. A total of 24 female basketball players (age: 14.17±0.92 years; height: 160.46±5.74 cm; body weight: 51.42±5.60 kg), consisting of the Technical Skills Group (TSG, n=12) and the Traditional Training Group (TTG, n=12), between 13-15 ages, participated to study. TSG performed high-intensity training at 80-90% intensity and TTG performed traditional training (3 days*6 week). Before and after the trainings, 20m sprint test (ST20), T agility test (TAT), sit-and-reach flexibility test (SRT), medicine ball throw test (MBT), 20s Crunch Test (CRT20), Vertical Jump test (VJ), Running-Based Anaerobic Speed Test (RAST), Passing Test (PT), Shooting Test (SHT) and Slalom Dribbling Test (SDT) were applied. ST20, TAT, SRT, VJ, SHT performances increased significantly in the TSG (p<0.05), no difference was found in TTG (p>0.05). However, a significant difference in CRT20, MBT and SDT performances in both groups (p<0.05); however, no difference in RAST and PT performances (p>0.05). It was found that the changes in ST20, CRT20, SRT, MBT, VJ, PT and SHT performance, were significantly different between groups (p<0.05). According to these results, it can be said that high-intensity skill-based training was effective on sprint, core strength, flexibility, upper extremity anaerobic strength, vertical jump, passing and shooting technical skills, while no effect on agility, running-based anaerobic power and dribbling skills in adolescent female basketball players.
