Abstract :T;his report traces the development of soci!al anthropology in Turkey from lts intellectual foundations to about 1972-73. The report has o number of Iimrtations which we would like to point out ot the start. 1. It deols olmest exclusively with \`Turkish social ontıhrop\`ology\`; that İsı, it moinly covers studies conducted in Turkey by Turkish social sci.ent,ists who have exomined social, economic, politicol, educationa!, and/or religious institutions and the sacioculturol values, norms, and roles which structure the relotjons oH participants ,in these instituti\`Ons. In preparing the report. we h,o:ve been pa-rticulorly inteTested in the work bf s\`ocral scientists who have resided in their reseercıh si1es for an extended period and have employed the oharacteristic anthropologic:al resea.rch techınique of participant observation. We have treated\` ooy studies conforming to the above topical and reseorch criteria os \`social anthropologieal\` studies, even thtlUg,h their authors moy deseribe themselves by other lobels, such os sociclogists or rurol sociolqgists.Keywords : DEVELOPMENT, SOCIAL, ANTHROPOLOGY
