Abstract :Alabaster idols and statuettes form an important category among the finds peculiar to Kültepe-Kanish. This type of object has been known since H er mann published a crude specimen in the year 1894. Since that date the number of such objects has greatly increased as they were brought into the museums of Ankara, the Louvre, Kayseri and other places; and it gradually became possible to study their types, technical characteristics, style and meaning . As Tahsin Ozgüç has explained, various interpretations have been put forward regarding their meaning and especially the civilization they belong to.
