Abstract :Academic libraries may be losing student patrons due to the lack of awareness of available library resources and services. This awareness can be created by the use of patron-tailored public relations (PR) strategies. The study investigated traditional PR strategies in an academic library despite this digital era. The study adopted the survey research design administering two questionnaires to library personnel (N=48) and students (N=370). The obtained data were analysed using percentage and frequency count. Results showed that traditional PR strategies were well employed in the study library with media activities being least utilised - traditional PR strategies are germane despite social media breakthroughs. The major challenge to PR strategies was identified as the absence of qualified library professionals. It is recommended that the library should endeavour to judiciously use its employees to further drive traditional PR strategies in the absence of needed technology to drive digital PR strategies.
