Abstract :Children are at increased risk of injury and death from accidents for several reasons. Accidents account for a high proportion of deaths in childhood and adolescence. Aim: The study was intended to determine the demographic data on fatal childhood accidents due to accidental fall of an object. Materials and methods: In this study the autopsy reports performed between 2001 and 2005 in the Morgue of İstanbul of the Council of Forensic Medicine were evaluated retrospectively. 27 cases out of 833 were due to an object falling on the victim among the group of accidental deaths among children aged 0-18 years. Age, gender, types of accidents and causes of death were evaluated Resaults: Of 27 cases, 21 77.8% were male and 6 22.2% female. The highest rate of death from accidents is at the group of 1-4 years n=12, 44.4% . The most frequent death was due to fall of a bed n=6 , followed by fall of a television n=5 . Conclusion: The database in this study will be guiding for accident prevention programs.
