Abstract :The main aim of this study is to define the obesity prevalence and the influencing factors in the primary school students at the ages of 10-12 in Kastamonu city center. Body Mass Index of 480 students was estimated, and 46.5 % of them were found to be underweight while 10.4 % were overweight and 1.3 % were obese. The rest of the students 41.9 % were in normal ranges. The statistical analyses have shown that the obesity rates are higher, in members of families who have obese members, chocholate and chips consumers, less or inactive students, and the students under the maternal suppression for eating much. Students stated that they consume more food they are joyful, and they omit the meals when they do not feel like to eat. Although the rate of obesity isn’t very high, when it is taken into consideration that obesity is one of the major illnesses in the future it is very significant to take measures in childhood period
