Abstract :Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity among students aged 5-15 years at 13 elementary schools in Kastamonu city center. Material and Method: From the Kastamonu Directorate of National Education, which includes 35 total schools,13 primary schools 35% were included in this study through a simple random sampling technique. The sample size consists of 2907 students 1456 female and 1451 male from kindergarten to 8th grade, who are at the ages of 5-15 years. Results: Statistical breakdown of body mass index categories among the sample size is as follows: Obese and overweight students involved in this study was found to be 6.4% and 11.9%, respectively. It was determined that 67.5% of the students taking part in the study were of normal weight. The rate of underweight students was determined to be 5.2%, while 9.0% of the students were at risk of being underweight. It was found that 10.5% of the students were of short stature and 3.3% were tall.
