Abstract :Throughout their lives people experience ups and downs in their state of health and occasionally are faced with diseases which require special care and treatment. Critical patients receive care and treatment in intensive care units. Intensive care is a multidisciplinary type of care with treatment methods applied to patients who have acute, life-threatening conditions. Entering an intensive care unit is a highly stressful experience for both patients and their families. It has been proven through evidence-based practices that Therapeutic Touch, a supplementary therapy used to improve patient health, can help prevent disease and support health care and medical treatment of disease. It has been found to be especially effective with patients in intensive care units. Therapeutic Touch is also an alternative method of empathy expression that is partifcularly helpful in cases where verbal expression is not possible. Studies have shown neurophysiologic responses in patients receiving Theraputic Touch.
