Abstract :Purpose: This study aims to determine the factors that influence the career choices of first-year nursing students. Method: The study population of this descriptive study consisted of 164 first-year students at the nursing department of a health scholl, Turkey, in the spring semester of the 2014-2015 academic year. The study was carried out with 120 students who agreed to participate in the research without any sample selection. A questionnaire developed by the researchers and HMSÖ were used for data collection. Percentage distributions, ANOVA, t-test, Kruskal-Wallis, Mann Whitney U and Dunn’s tests were used in the statistical analysis of the data. Results: The mean score of students taken in HMSÖ was 50.56±15.07. A statistically significant difference was found between students’ gender, willingness in choosing the nursing department, love of profession, and reason to choose this profession and the total score in the career choice scale p
