Abstract :Objectives: This study aims to determine the causes and conditions effecting mothers’ dicisions for using pacifiers with 0-1 year old babies.Materials and Methods: The research content was formed by totally 1132 mothers have babies in 0-1 aged which were recorded in 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 numbered Family Health Centers in district in İzmir. The sampling was formed by 288 mothers using “Number of individuals in the universe known Sampling Method”. A questionaire form which involves 32 questions developed by the researchers was used gathering the datas. On evaluating the datas, SPSS 16.0 packet programme was used and number,percantage and ki-kare tests were applied. Results: It was also determined that 49.0% of the mothers in the study used pacifiers in baby, 27.8% of mothers were using pacifier for falling a sleep in baby, 33.3% of them were using pacifier for silence when babies were crying, 66.7% of them were found that pacifier use of harmful, 51.8% of them were stated that harmful to tooth development in babies. 32.3% of mothers who weren’t used pacifiers to babies explained that they weren’t used pacifier in babies because it could be harmful for his health. Conclusion: It was found that mothers’ who has been observed for preferred to use pacifier in their babies on a great rates. It was recommended that mothers and pregnant woman were informed about the harms of pacifier use in Health facilities
