Abstract :Pathology laboratory technicians graduate from two-year programs. However, these qualifications for pathology laboratory technicians are insufficient when considering European Union standards, the increasing complexity of new methodologies and the increasied frequency of cancer cases. The need for technicians known as cytotecnologist, was recognized several years ago in developed countries and new education programmes were created. The first aim of this study is to define the role of the“cytotechnologist” and then to investigate its status in the world and Turkey. Thus the second aim is to create an awareness for opening new bachelor of science programmes in cythotechnology
