The historical development process of social work in the USA and various social work fields are discussed from the perspective of cultural awareness and social justice advocacy. The findings show that social workers’ provision of services sensitive to cultural diversity is effective in overcoming systemic barriers experienced by disadvantaged groups. At the end of the study, it is recommended that cultural competency trainings should be increased, and community-based programs should be expanded for social work in the USA to better adapt to the multicultural structure.
