Abstract :It is an undeniable fact that Soviet intelligence organizations are different from modern intelligence organizations from many aspects. The main reason is that they did not just primarily deal with foreign intelligence, but also they focused on internal affairs. After the October Revolution, these intelligence organizations started to control the society from different dimensions. The aim of the research is therefore to demonstrate the ways in which the Soviet intelligence organizations influenced the cultural sphere especially in fields of art, literature and religion through various mechanisms of control and censorship by examining the documents of Soviet intelligence organizations between the years of 1917 and 1953. This paper sheds new light on the cultural dimension of the control mechanisms of the Soviet intelligence organizations. The findings emphasize the leading role of the activities of Soviet intelligence organizations for shaping Soviet identity in the field of art, literature and religion within Communist ideology. Keywords : Sovyet istihbaratı, kültür, kontrol, baskı
