Abstract :Background: Bioprosthetic valves are preferred frequently for valve replacement. Bioprosthetic valves have lower requirement for anticoagulation compared to mechanical valves, but still valve related thrombotic complications occur. Method: We report a 77 year old patient with acute thrombus formation on the bioprosthetic aortic valve. He did not use warfarin intentionally. The patient was operated for thrombectomy. Results: During the postoperative period, the patient developed pulmonary complications related to prior chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and died on postoperative second week. Conclusion: We routinely recommend warfarin and asetylsalicylic acid use in the first three months and soon acetylsalicylic acid lifelong in order not to face with catastrophic thrombosis related complications.
