Abstract :This study examines music teacher candidates’ opinions on the 800-thousand threshold application and formation training in department entrance exams. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 12 volunteer candidates, selected via purposive sampling. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using content analysis, with findings presented in tables and supported by participant quotes. The study found that prospective music teachers see the necessity of the 800,000-point threshold, emphasising that teachers should be well-equipped and hence support this threshold. Another finding was that pre-service music teachers felt that the teacher training program was unfair to candidates, arguing that conservatory students undergoing this training should receive a more comprehensive education to become effective teachers. The study recommends that improvements may be needed in teaching programs to ensure that all candidates are equally well prepared and that if the teacher training program continues, the 800,000 threshold should be reviewed for those receiving formation training. Keywords : 800 bin barajı, formasyon eğitimi, müzik, öğretmen adayları
