Abstract :Bisphosphonates, which are widely usedfor the treatment of osteoporosis, are alsoused for reducing hypercalcemia due tobone malignancies, for preventing bonemetastases of breast and prostate carcinoma and for the treatment of osteolyticlesions in multiple myeloma. The beneficialrole of bisphosphonates in the target diseases is indisputable; however, during orafter the medication undesired side-effectsmay be seen especially in the jaw bones.Although many cases of bisphosphonaterelated osteonecrosis of jaws are associated with intravenous use of bisphosphonates, there is also evidence that jawosteonecrosis may occur with oral bisphosphonate treatment.
