Abstract :Türk toplumunda muhafazakarlık, sahip olduğu sosyo-politik ve sosyo-ekonomik referansları dikkate alınmadan kullanılan ve bu yüzden de yeterince anlaşılmayan bir kavramdır. Bu bilgisizliğin yanında özellikle akademik çevrelerdeki genel ilgisizlik muhafazakarlığın, değişime karşı olduğu, mevcut duruma körü körüne bağlılığı, tutuculuğu ve hatta gericiliği çağrıştıran bir ideoloji olarak algılanmasına yol açmıştır. Türk toplumunun modernleşme tarihini doğrudan ve dolaylı olarak etkileyen siyasî muhafazakarlığı bir düşünce tarzı olarak incelemek, bu çalışmanın temel amacıdır. Türkiye’deki siyasî yapıyı önemli ölçüde etkileyen bu düşüncenin kaynağının tanımlanması ve tarihî sürecinin açıklanması, bu çalışmanın kapsamında değerlendirilecektir. In both Turkish society and literature, conservatism is a concept that has not been properly understood. The reason for this is that has been used without linking it to any socio-political and socio-economic referents. In addition to this incomplete understanding, there is a general neglect of conservatism, especially on the part of academic circles. This has led to a perception of conservatism as an ideology that resists any social change, encourages blind endorsement of the status quo, and seems to embrace a reactionary outlook. This study attepts primarily to analyse political conservatism as a mode of thought. Since it has had a great influence on Turkish political structure, conservative thought in this article is first defined and the an explanation of its historical development is also included.
