Abstract :Edward Said’in 1978 yılında neşrettiği Oryantalizm adlı eseri Sosyal Bilimlerde etkisi bugün de devam eden tartışmalara yol açmıştır. Said, Batı’da yapılan şarkiyat çalışmalarının masum bir bilgiden ziyade Batının Doğu üzerindeki hegemonya arzularına hizmet ettiği düşüncesindedir. Bu amacın gerçekleştirilmesi için tarih boyunca olumsuz bir Doğu imajı ortaya konmuş, ilahiyattan filolojiye, resimden güzel sanatlara kadar bu imaj tutarlı ve birbirini tamamlayacak şekilde işlenmiştir. Said’in eseri Türkiye’de de yankılanmış, çevrildiği 1982 yılından bu yana hakkında pek çok neşriyat yapılmıştır. Aynı şekilde onun düşünceleri etrafında Türk tarihini ve aydınlarını değerlendiren çalışmalar da ortaya konulmuştur. Bu yazıda geçmişe de temas edilerek Türkiye’de Oryantalizm etrafında yapılan tartışmaların genel bir çerçevesi çizilmeye çalışılmıştır. Orientalism published by Edvvard Said in 1978 has caused many discussions in Social Sciences that are currently effective. Edvvard Said believes that Oriental studies in the West serve the superiority of West on East more than bare information. In order to realize this purpose, a negative East image has been made up through the history; from the theology to the philology, from the painting to fine arts, the image mentioned here has been taken in hand and reinforced coherently and in complement. The vvork of Said has reverberated in Turkey, too; since 1982, the year of translation, there has been many publications about it. Moreover, by the aspect of his ideas, there have been studies on the Turkish history and intelleetuals. In this paper, the studies on orientalism in Turkey is tried to be outlined generally and also by mentioning the past.
