Abstract :This study aimed to evaluate the effect of abdominal massage on pain and distention in patients who underwent colonoscopy. This randomized controlled study was conducted between September 2019 and December 2021 with the participation of 60 patients who underwent colonoscopy in the endoscopy unit of a university hospital. Thirty patients who received abdominal massage after colonoscopy were included in the experimental group. It was determined that there was no statistically significant difference between the groups according to sociodemographic characteristics variables (p > 0.05). While the decrease in patients’ pain levels was found statistically significant in the experimental group (p = 0.006), the difference in the distension level between first evaluation and second evaluation in the groups was not statistically significant (p = 0.139 and p = 0.548). Abdominal massage can be used as an effective nursing intervention in reducing pain after colonoscopy. The study was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05823350).Keywords : abdominal distansiyon, abdominal masaj, abdominal ağrı, kolonoskopi, hasta bakımı
