Abstract :In this study, heat treatment was applied to the CMAS parent glass produced using brucite with calcite, kaolin, ulexite natural raw materials and commercial MgF2, considering the DTA measurements. The crystallization behaviour and the growth directions of the crystals were investigated. XRD and SEM investigations revealed that the anorthite crystals were formed during heat treatment, and glass ceramic was obtained in the CAS system by surface crystallization. According to EBSD measurements, the {100} faces of the anorthite crystals just below the surface have a relatively higher ratio of lying parallel to the surface than their edges ({110}) and corners ({111}). These crystals grew by orienting in the same direction to the inner region of the remaining glass. However, some crystals exhibited random orientation. The tendency of crystals' same planes to lie parallel to the surface was relatively less in the inner regions than those on the surface.
