Abstract :Josiah Royce, hiçbir felsefi konunun kötülük probleminin, teorik olarak, yanlış ifade edilmesinden daha cesaret kırıcı olmadığını söyleyerek, 18 ve 19.y.y. felsefelerinin genel eğilimine uygun bir biçimde dikkatini „kötülük‟ problemine yöneltmiştir. Royce‟un kötülük problemine dair yaklaşımının en çarpıcı özelliği, onun bu problemin üstesinden gelebilmenin yolu olarak sadakat odaklı bir ahlak anlayışını görmesi olmuştur. Kötülük problemine mantıksal olmaktan çok, varoluşsal bir perspektiften yaklaşarak, ancak pratik anlamda tecrübe edilmesi halinde, kötülük problemine sorumluluk bilinciyle yaklaşılabileceğine dikkat çeken Royce, kötülük ile mücadelede kolektif bir irade ve sorumluluğa vurgu yapmıştır. Bu kolektif irade ve sorumluluk ise ona göre sadakat yoluyla sağlanabilmek durumundadır
