Abstract :Abstract Aims: This study was conducted to investigate the perceptions of crab basket syndrome among nurses working in surgical units. Method: The descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 206 nurses actively working in the surgical units of four hospitals in the Mediterranean region between January 24 2023-June 24 2024. The research data were collected face to face with the \\\"Introductory Information Form and Crab Basket Syndrome Scale.\\\" Descriptive statistics, Independent Sample Student t test and Kruskal Wallis-H tests were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: The mean age of the nurses was 36.51±8.51 years. Of the nurses who participated in the study, 81% were female, 65.7% were married, 43.8% were undergraduated degree, and 28.6% had 1-5 years of professional experience. This study found that the behavioural sub-dimension score of the nurses who were dissatisfied with the institution they worked in and who did not trust the nurse in charge of the service they worked in was higher and more significant than the other groups (p<0.05). Nurses was found that who were dissatisfied with the communication with their colleagues in the unit and who do not trust their colleagues had higher mean scores in the cognitive, emotional, behavioural sub-dimensions and total score of the crab basket syndrome scale and the difference between the groups was statistically significant (p<0.05). Nurses found that who did not find the competition in the working environment absolutely correct was higher cognitive sub-dimension score of and the difference between the groups was statistically significant (χ² = 7.819; p = 0.020). Conclusions: It has been observed that nurses working in surgical units experience crab basket syndrome. To reduce the crab basket syndrome in surgical wards, a non-competitive, reliable and supportive working environment that increases nurses\\\' trust in the institution, the nurse in charge and their teammates should be provided.
