Abstract :Core design directly effects the vertical circulation efficiency of high-rise buildings since vertical circulation elements are designed within the core. This study aims to evaluate the core designs of high-rise buildings according to vertical circulation efficiency criteria and reveal the advantages and disadvantages of the designs compared to each other. The study is important because it brings together information on the design of vertical circulation elements, provides a comprehensive and holistic perspective on the core design of high-rise buildings, and evaluates the core as a vertical circulation center. After the explanation of the approaches to the design of vertical circulation elements, core designs in the literature were brought together and a more comprehensive classification was created for evaluation. Central and random cores, tube systems were found to be advantageous in terms of short access distances to vertical circulation elements. Independent cores were found to be advantageous in terms of benefiting from natural light and not opening directly to working and living areas. Central cores, random cores, and tube systems were found to be advantageous in terms of not experiencing difficulties in building design as the building height increases. Keywords : Sirkülasyon verimliliği, Çekirdek, Yüksek yapı, Düşey sirkülasyon
