Abstract :The primary purpose of this study is to evaluate the gynecological and obstetric cases admitted to the emergency department during the COVID-19 outbreak. The data were analyzed between 1 December 2019 and 6 June 2020. Gynecological and obstetric emergencies admitted to a district state hospital emergency, which was declared as a pandemic hospital three months before and three months after 12 March, when the first case was seen in our country, were evaluated. Obstetric and gynecological cases applied before and during the pandemic were divided into two groups as an emergency and non-emergency cases and compared. A total of 454 cases before and during the pandemic were evaluated within the scope of the study. A 144% increase was observed in preterm labor admissions during the pandemic period. A statistically significant difference was found between obstetric complaints and diagnoses and the admissions to the emergency department before and during the pandemic. While the gestation week increased the number of admissions due to emergency reasons during the pandemic by 2.1 times, it increased 1.1 times before the pandemic. In the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the decrease in the number of admissions to the emergency department due to obstetric and gynecological reasons, the percentage of emergency cases has increased. It should be kept in mind that obstetric patients need routine healthcare during restriction measures taken by governments in situations, such as pandemics, that affect public health.
