Abstract :Violence is as ancient as human history itself, permeating every facet of individual and societal life since the dawn of humankind. As a complex and multifaceted phenomenon with social, psychological, and political dimensions, violence has profoundly influenced the formation and evolution of societies throughout history. In the Prehistoric Period, it served as a pivotal instrument of power, particularly in the consolidation of state structures. The Hittites, who forged political unity in Central Anatolia through violent means in the second millennium BC, perpetuated its use as a mechanism of control and subjugation in both their domestic and foreign policies in subsequent periods. Hittite legal codes encompass provisions on criminal law, property rights, and the preservation of social order, reflecting a structured approach to governance. In devising their legal system, the Hittite state endeavoured to uphold societal stability by categorising violent transgressions and prescribing punitive measures accordingly. Their laws delineate a broad spectrum of violent offences, including murder and premeditated killing, wounding and physical assault, sexual violence and coercive marriage, domestic abuse, cruelty towards animals, robbery, and extortion. This study undertakes a critical examination of selected violent crimes codified in Hittite law, offering a multifaceted exploration of the legal sanctions imposed and their broader implications within the sociopolitical framework of the time. Keywords : Hitit Devleti, Hitit Hukuku, Şiddet, Ceza
