Abstract :Aim: COVID-19 has emerged as a disease that poses a significant global health problem. It can be seen from asymptomatic to intensive care and death. Magnesium is the main cation in the human body. The prognostic role of magnesium, which also plays a role in inflammation as an enzymatic activator, is not clear. Our aim is to investigate whether magnesium is a factor that predicts admission to the intensive care unit (ICU). Materials and Methods: This retrospective study recorded the magnesium values and discharge-intensive care status of patients hospitalized in the chest diseases clinic. Results: 426 patients were included in the study. The mean age of the participants was 64.4±14.5 years, and the mean magnesium value was 2.1±0.3 mg/dl. Patients who were discharged from the hospital and those who went to the ICU had similar magnesium values. Conclusion: Although there is still no clarity on the clinical effects of magnesium, various relationships between magnesium levels and COVID-19 have been shown. However, no relationship was found between magnesium levels and intensive care unit admission.
Keywords : magnesium, COVID-19, intensive care unit
