Abstract :Ecological, taxonomic and cytotaxonomic studies were carried out on melons belonging to the Cucumis L. Genus grown in the Van region. Melons grown in Van, locally called “Sıhke” and “Şamama”, were used in the studies. The seeds of Şamama and Sıhke melons were obtained from Van farmers who have been cultivating them for years. Gardens in Bostaniçi municipality were used for the ecological study. Ecological monitoring of melons planted in the first week of June was carried out. When they bloomed within these four types of melon seedlings were removed from the soil and pressed for taxonomic study. For the cytotaxonomic study, three types of melon seeds were germinated in the laboratory, stained for the cytotaxonomic study, and their chromosomes were examined.
