Abstract :The aim of this study is to analyze the socioeconomic factors affecting migration in Level 1 Regions of Turkey during the 2009-2022 period using econometric methods to reveal the dynamics of migration. Econometric analysis using annual data for 2009-2022 reveals that gross domestic product (GDP) per capita and age dependency ratio have a positive and statistically significant effect on migration. This finding suggests that individuals become more mobile as economic prosperity increases, and young people are more likely to migrate to regions with higher age dependency ratios. Moreover, education level is found to have a negative and statistically significant effect on migration. As the level of education increases, individuals tend to stay in their home regions rather than migrate. Based on the findings, it is recommended that regional development policies be strengthened, education and employment opportunities improved, and economic prospects in less developed regions increased to reduce migration imbalances. It is also necessary to increase infrastructure investments and support local labor markets to reduce excessive migration.
