Abstract :Public libraries are important institutions that meet the information needs of society. The development of digital technologies has made it necessary to restructure information retrieval systems in libraries. This study analyzes the current state of information retrieval systems in modern public libraries and evaluates their future prospects. Historically, information retrieval systems in libraries were in the form of catalog cards. Later, the use of automated systems and digital catalogs helped increase efficiency. These include a lack of technological infrastructure, shortcomings in managing databases, and issues with meeting user demands. In the future, the widespread use of artificial intelligence, automated content analysis, and personalized search algorithms will play an important role in making information retrieval systems in public libraries more flexible and efficient.
