Abstract :This study comprehensively analyzes the theoretical, practical, and methodological aspects of cataloguing literature at the National Library of Azerbaijan named after Mirza Fatali Akhundov. Cataloguing, as a core component of library and information science, plays a crucial role in the description, identification, and retrieval of documents. The paper reviews major international cataloguing standards such as AACR2, RDA, MARC 21, FRBR, and the IFLA Library Reference Model (LRM), and evaluates their implementation within the Azerbaijani library system. It also examines the historical development of cataloguing practices at the National Library, the functions of electronic cataloguing systems, forms of methodological guidance, and existing challenges. The findings indicate that the cataloguing experience of the National Library serves as a key mechanism for integration into the global information environment, and continuous methodological improvement remains essential for future development.
