Abstract :This article presents a comprehensive analysis of the establishment, development stages, and scientific-organizational activities of the Mahammad Fuzuli Institute of Manuscripts under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, covering the period up to 1987. It highlights the historical necessity of founding the Institute and substantiates its pivotal role in the advancement of Azerbaijani science and culture. Based on archival and documentary sources, the study details the formation of structural divisions, the identification of core research areas, and efforts in the collection, preservation, and classification of manuscript heritage. Furthermore, the article examines the Institute’s collaboration with leading domestic and international research institutions, the preparation of scholarly publications, and the accomplishments in the study of classical written heritage. The findings suggest that by 1987, the Institute had fulfilled a significant scientific and cultural mission in preserving, researching, and disseminating the national manuscript legacy.
