Abstract :This study relates to the coatability of the Ni-Al powder to surface of AISI 304 stainless steel substrate using self-propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS) method. Effects of different pressing pressure and sintering after igniting on the microstructure and microhardness of the coating was investigated experimentally. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques were used to characterize the coatings. The microhardness was measured by microhardness device. Along the depth from the surface towards the substrate coating has been found microhardness variations. Micro hardness of the coating layer increased with increasing of the pressing pressure and the sintering temperature.
