Abstract :The aim of the study is to determine the caregiver burden and compassion levels of parents who provide care to individuals with cerebral palsy. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 158 parents who provided care to individuals with cerebral palsy being followed at rehabilitation centers in Istanbul. Data were collected face-to-face using the Personal Information Form, the Caregiver Burden Scale, and the Compassion Level Scale Inquiry Form. It was found that those with a university education, those who could not cover the child’s expenses, those who could not benefit from their spouse in the care of the child, and those who had no one other than their spouse to help in the care of the child had higher mean scores on both the Caregiver Burden Scale and the Compassion Scale, and the differences were statistically significant. It was found that those with the ataxic type of cerebral palsy and those with additional problems along with cerebral palsy had statistically significant higher mean scores on the Caregiver Burden Scale and the Compassion Scale. As a result, it is recommended that the care needs of parents who provide care to individuals with cerebral palsy be identified and that treatment be evaluated with a holistic approach.
