Abstract :Bu çalışmada Sefalosporin grubu bir antibiyotik olan Sefuroksim aksetil (Aksef®)’in çeşitli test bakterileri üzerindeki antibakteriyel etkisi ve organizma üzerindeki mutajenik etki potansiyeli araştırılmıştır. Antibakteriyel aktivite Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Bacillus megaterium DSM 32, Pseudomonas aeroginosa ATCC 9027 ve Enterobacter aerogenes ’e karşı oyuk agar metodu ile test edilmiştir. Potansiyel mutajenik aktivite ise Ames test yöntemi kullanılarak Salmonella typhimurium TA 98 ve TA 100 suşları yardımı ile test edilmiştir. Antibakteriyel aktivite testi neticesinde Sefuroksim aksetil (Aksef®)’in test bakterileri üzerinde 19,830±0,120 ile 20,775±0,285 mm arasında değişen inhibisyon zonu oluşturduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca; mutajen aktivite sonuçlarına göre Sefuroksim aksetil (Aksef®)’in hiçbir dozunun çerçeve kayması ve baz çifti değişimi mutasyonlarına neden olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Anahtar Kelimeler: sefuroksim aksetil (Aksef®), antibakteriyel etki,ames testi, mutajenite   Determination of Antibacterial and Mutagenic Activities of Cefuroxime axetil (Aksef®) which is a Cephalosporin Antibiotic   ABSTRACT: In this study, Cefuroxime axetil (Aksef®), a cephalosporin antibiotic, was tested for its antibacterial activity on test bacteria and its potencial mutagenic activity on organism. Antibacterial activity was tested against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Bacillus megaterium DSM 32, Pseudomonas aeroginosa ATCC 9027 and Enterobacter aerogenes with agar well diffusion method. Potential mutagenic activity of Cefuroxime axetil (Aksef®) were tested in TA 98 and TA 100 strains of Salmonella typhimurium using Ames test. Consequently, it was determined that Cefuroxime axetil (Aksef®) created inhibition zones on test bacteria between 19.830±0.120 and 20.775±0.285 mm. Additionally, according to mutagenic activity, it was also determined that any dose of the Cefuroxime axetil (Aksef®) did not cause the frame-shift mutations and base pair substitution mutations Key Words: cefuroxime axetil (Aksef®), antibacterial, ames test, mutagenic effect
