Abstract :Bu makalede; tuzun, insan hayatındaki tarihi önemine değinildikten sonra Arapçada ve Farsçada içerdiği mecazi manalar sözlükler yoluyla belirlen irken, Türkçede ihtiva etmiş olduğu mecazi manalar eski Türk kaynaklarından olan Diviau Lugati `t-Türk, Kutadgu Bilig, Kısasü`l-Enbiyii adlı eserler üzerinden tespit edilmiştir. Bu tespitler neticesinde de Kutadgu Bilig`de yanlış okunup, günümüz Türkçesine yanlış çevrildiğine kanaat getirdiğimiz bir beytin doğru okunuş şekli ile günümüz Türkçesine doğru çevirisi verilip, söz konusu olan beytin taşıdığı mana ortaya konmaya çalışılmıştır.
