Determination of Nursing Students' Fear of COVID-19, Intolerance of Uncertainty and Coronavirus Anxiety: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract :Objective: This study aimed to determine the fear of COVID-19, intolerance of uncertainty and coronavirus anxiety in nursing students who switched from online education to face-to-face education. Methods: It is a descriptive cross-sectional study. Demographic information form, fear of COVID-19 scale, intolerance of uncertainty scale, coronavirus anxiety scale were used. This research was carried out an university at the Faculty of Health Science Nursing Department and Health School Nursing Department in the 2021-2022 academic year. Our study was completed with a total of 788 students who agreed to participate in the study. The data obtained from our study were evaluated with the SPSS 25.00 package program. The significance level was accepted as p<0.05. Results: The average age of the students was 20.38±1.75. 32.6% of the students were in the first grade, and 79.4% were female. The mean score of the students\' fear of COVID-19 scale was 17.44±5.94, the mean score of intolerance to uncertainty scale was 38.78±8.50, the mean score of coronavirus anxiety was 1.63±3.46. There was a statistically significant difference between some demographic data of the students and the scale score averages (p<0.05). The conducted correlation analysis revealed a positive relationship between COVID-19 fear, intolerance of uncertainty, and coronavirus anxieties (p<0.05). Conclusions: Results of this research show a moderate fear of COVID-19 and a high level of intolerance of uncertainty during the pandemic.
