21st Century Skills in Cartoons: The Example of Rafadan Tayfa

Abstract :In the study, it was aimed to determine how often 21st century (21st century) skills were included in the Rafadan Tayfa cartoon. The research was planned using the case study model from qualitative research methods, and the document analysis method was employed. The cartoon to be analyzed in terms of 21st century skills was determined based on the opinions of 50 girls and 50 boys attending public kindergartens. Of the 127 episodes of the Rafadan Tayfa cartoon, 13 episodes determined by simple random sampling method were watched by the researchers. The skills in the watched episodes were scored as present (1) or absent (0) according to their presence in the “21st Century Skills Checklist” consisting of 12 titles and 65 sub-items. According to the findings of the study, “Learning and Innovation Skills” are the most common 21st century skills in Rafadan Tayfa cartoon, followed by “Life and Career Skills”. In addition, “Information, Media and Technology Skills” were found to be the least in Rafadan Tayfa. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the cartoon supports 21st century skills, but it should be enriched in terms of some sub-skills and suggestions were presented in this direction.
